Turkey Trot: A Fun Run

Exercise on Thanksgiving Day?!? No way! Unless you’re talking about walking to the refrigerator for more gravy. Well, tens of thousands (that’s how many people attend some of the most popular turkey trot) wake up early on the fourth Thursday of November to run distances of 5K to 42,195 meters!!! Holy moly.

The first turkey trot was held in Buffalo, New York (I grew up in Rochester and it’s too damn cold to be outdoors on Turkey Day in upstate NY) in 1876. This Thursday will mark the 113th running of this fun run.

Other notable Thanksgiving Day Races include the Manchester Road Race held in Manchester, Connecticut and the Atlanta Marathon in Atlanta, Georgia.

If you want to run before you eat on Thursday then check out TurkeyTrot.com. This amazing list of Thanksgiving fun runs on covers all 50 states. Happy running and Happy Thanksgiving.

Remember, wear what you want to the turkey trot, but wear something elastic the rest of the day. :)
