A Thin Line Between Hard and Easy

The biggest challenge we face at High Trek Adventure is the degree of difficultly of clues. We don’t want them to be impossible because that would appeal to a small group, but we don’t want to give the clues away. That’s where our creative writing juices kick in. We try to leave embedded hints in the clues e.g., for our Portland race we sent our racers to Unthank Park where they needed to take a picture there. In the clue we mentioned that they could find a sign any where on the 37.5 acres (many U.S. parks are measured in acres). We felt that this was not too hard and not too difficult.
When we first began our adventure race series, our clues were very difficult and our racers told us. What are your thoughts? We’d love to hear from people who’ve participated and those who have yet to. Your feedback is essential as we continue to evolve our game.
Cheers,
Jason
