So what did all of you do for Valentine’s Day?
…Oh, was that in February? Well, we at CitySolve Urban Race sometimes forget because of all the love being shown by The H.E.A.R.T. Program in Houston. They may not be handing out chocolate or flowers, but they certainly are giving back to the community. Their gift? Creating new opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities to achieve their potential.
Since 2006, H.E.A.R.T. has provided job training and employment opportunities in vending and concessions to low-income adults with developmental disabilities. They’ve partnered with various businesses and stadiums to allow these adults to receive an education and enter the work force to earn paychecks at minimum wage or higher. But not only does H.E.A.R.T. teach life skills, life management, and work ethics, it also offers tutoring and instruction in educational subjects. The hands-on of job training combined with in-classroom instruction equips these adults to be active in their community. Hats off to H.E.A.R.T. for their care for Houston!
